OILERS DROP HOME OPENER TO CUCUMBERS 5-3 BICKELL SUFFERS BROKEN ANKLE
by Joe Hackett Oilers Beat Reporter
Kevin Poulin looked shaky from the start, and the Oilers Gabriel Dumont got a stupid hooking penalty 36 seconds into the affair. Not a good way to start, and it only got worse from there as Jokinen and Goc in particular, exploited the situation.
Pirri, Pouliot and young d-man Jordan Schmaltz had goals in the loss. Brian Bickell lost a skate edge and had a nasty collision into the boards that resulted in a broken ankle. He is expected to be sidelined at least a few weeks.
The Oilers and Cucumbers play the rematch in Montreal on Wednesday.

BICKELL BROKEN ANKLE MYSTERIOUS MISDIAGNOSIS
by Joe Hackett Oilers Beat Reporter
After feeling absolutely no pain in an apparent broken ankle and re-examination by Oilers team physician Dr. Mal Practice, it has been determined that further x-rays revealed no fractures in his ankle, not even a sprain.
So cast removed, Bickell has been cleared to play tomorrow in Portland.
The Oilers have subsequently hired a new physician, Dr. Frank Jobe, who brought with him a new radiologist.
Good to have Bryan well, but that is just weird...

SCHEIFELE, HUDLER WITH BIG GAMES AS OILERS PUT DOWN CRACKPIPES 5-1
by Joe Hackett
Ben Bishop got a little help with his suntan as the Oilers peppered the bronzed netminder with 43 shots. Hudler and Scheifele both scored twice, Scheifele scoring back to back goals in 23 seconds. Scheifele also had 2 assists in a 4 point effort. He looks scary good, and Hudler is pretty good as well.
Kevin Poulin improves to 2-1 on the preseason. The rematch is Sunday.

SCHEIFELE WITH GAME WINNER IN OVERTIME IN TULSA VS. CRACKPIPES
by Joe Hackett Oilers Beat Reporter
Hudler continued his stellar play, with a goal and 3 assists. D-Man Morrow had a goal and 2 assists and fellow blueliner Sbisa contributed a pair of assists. Poulin improves to 3-1, while former Oiler Ben Bishop drops to 1-3.
So far this preseason, the Oilers are very fun to watch. Let's hope this gives them some momentum carry-over into the season.

OILERS 6 - HARFANGS 4 IT'S THE POULIOT AND PIRRI SHOW IN BEAUPORT
Benoit Pouliot scored a pair, and which was matched by Scouts center prospect Brandon Pirri. Not to be left out, the amazing Scheifele added one of his own. Kevin Poulin was pounded, but managed to stop 42 of the 46 shots he took to move to 4-1 on the preseason.
It was the Oilers 4th consecutive win and tomorrow's home game promises to be standing-room-only.

Scheifele should become pro eligible this year, and if Noel will stop playing that scrub James Wright on his wing he could have a killer season.

Scheifele should become pro eligible this year, and if Noel will stop playing that scrub James Wright on his wing he could have a killer season. Sure would love to see it. Hope Pirri does, too. With coach Q, either he falls in love with you, ala Saad -- or you're fucked. Hope to God it's the former, not the latter. Would like to see Jimmy Hayes get a chance too. Outlaws need him. Speaking of Saad, the center experiment has failed there. Good news for Pirri, I hope.

PATRIOTS 7 - OILERS 5 PATRIOTS 5-GOAL 2ND PERIOD WASTE TREMENDOUS EFFORT BY SCHEIFELE
by Joe Hackett Oilers Beat Reporter
Andrei Vasilevski proved he is not ready for prime time yet, getting shelled once again. Scheifele played light out with 2 goals and 2 assists. He is having himself a highlight-reel preseason, along with Hudler.
The rematch is in Tulsa today. I'm guessing and really hoping Poulin is back in the lineup for Tulsa.

THE TULSA OILERS SEASON UP TO NOW
by Joe Hackett Oilers Beat Reporter
The Oilers are red hot, despite losing yesterday to the improving Ben Bishop and the Crackpipes 3-2. The Oilers are now 9-3-1 and are just coming off an 8-game winning streak.
The Oilers have the best goals against average in the league, and Kevin Poulin is tops among farm goalies at the moment. 7 players are in double digits for points. Jiri Hudler has been red-hot, and speculation is he may earn a shot at the Scouts. I wonder when Khabibulin gets a start here, and how long his leash is when he does. The way Poulin is playing right now, its probably best to let the Bulin Wall hold th gate for Poulim right now.

OILERS SHUTOUT WINTER HAWKS 2-0 ON GOALS BY SCHEIFELE, NOESON
The Oilers dominated this contest, limiting the Winter Hawks to just 16 shots. Holtby stopped all of them for the shutout. Former Oiler Kevin Poulin takes the loss.
Jan Hejda assisted on both the Scheifele and Noeson goals. The Oilers need to keep playing well, because the Air Force and Salmon Kings are lurking right behind them.

OILERS HANG ON FOR 4-3 VICTORY OVER SEATTLE THUNDERBIRDS IN TULSA
by Joe Hackett Oilers Beat Reporter
Brandon Pirri won the opening faceoff fired a snapshot at Michael Leighton, then scored on another snapshot off his own rebound, Bam! 1-0 Oilers. Letestu followed that with a goal at 12:03, 2-0 Oilers. It remained that way until the Thunderbirds scores 2 goals in 16 seconds, 1 tick better that a certain NHL team that starts with a "C", ends with an "O" and in the middle is "hicag". Staubitz and Betts with goals for the T-Birds.
Brian Flynn scored his first goal as an Oiler at 12:23 of the 2nd followed by a Stefan Noesen powerplay goal at 14:53. That's the way the 2nd period ended, Oilers 4 - T-Birds 2.
Betts scored his 2nd of the game at 13:02 of the final stanza and that ended the scoring. Final Oilers 4 - Thunderbirds 3. Darcy Kuemper evens his record to 1-1 with Tulsa. Next game is Sunday vs the Air Force.
