Since over a quarter of NLHS will be new GMs, I decided we should have a thread where we introduce and get to know each other. (Please keep current happenings in the "Real Life Rambling" thread)
So I'll start.
Hi, my name is Locria. I'm an 18-year-old transgender girl (preferred pronoun: she/her) living in the Pocono Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania; I've been going by my chosen name for about two months now. I'll be starting at the University of Vermont this fall to study computer science. Hard to believe it's been almost 5 years since I found NLHS on HF and became a founding GM and am the only remaining founder running a team.
Don't let the fact that I don't pass too convincingly (I blame lack of makeup and short hair for that one) fool you: I'm quite the girly girl. I'm really into fashion and cosmetics. The things I would buy with better stores and more money...
I also love dogs. I have one dog, a chocolate lab/pitbull mix named Penelope. She's 6 years old and I love her to death. It's going to suck when I move away, but at the same time, her barking waking me up wayyy earlier than I would like won't be missed hehe
I've been a hockey fan my whole life, but I've recently gotten the label of "hockey hipster" by more than one person, a role I've embraced. I haven't watched NHL at all since before the Olympics and got way more into European hockey. My favorite team in Europe is Medveščak Zagreb of the KHL. I also follow NCAA religiously, and where I'm going to school will tell you who I cheer for there. I'm a soccer newbie and casual CFL and baseball fan.
In my spare time I write occasional hockey stuff on the English version khl.hr.
Favorite stuff:
Soccer team: Union in MLS, Southampton in the Premiership, Croatia in the WC.
CFL team: Winnipeg
Baseball team: Boston
AHL teams: St. John's, followed by Wilkes-Barre as they've been my local team for 15 years haha
ECHL teams: Ontario/Wheeling
SHL team: Färjestad
NLA team: Fribourg-Gotteron
DEL team: Krefeld
EBEL team: Ljubljana, due mainly to their partnership with Medveščak
Junior team: Sibirskie Snaipery Novosibirsk of the Russian junior league. Medveščak needs a team here so we don't get blocked 8 times at the draft again >_>
International hockey teams: Sweden for top division, Croatia for anything lower. Also have soft spots for Latvia, Slovenia, and Iceland. I see Bosnia/Herzegovina's entering an IIHF tournament for the first time this year too so I'll cheer for them in DIII where I've never had a dog before (though I have a friend from Bulgaria so I was hoping they'd get promoted which they did).
Currently-running TV show: Legend of Korra
Movie: Don't really have one. Not much of a movie watcher.
TV/Movie character: Basically any of the major female characters from LoK and A:TLA. They're amazing in that they show a girl can be girly and still kick some ass.
Musical genre: Pop punk, trying to get into EDM though, with mixed results.
Musical group: I actually don't have one. I'm easy to please haha
If you want to know me more outside of NLHS, your best chance is to follow me on Twitter @locksthefox.

I'm Matthew Taylor, Owner/GM of the Seattle Metropolitans.
I'm 25, nearly 26 and with 86 credits I'm nearly a senior at the University of Colorado. Where I'm majoring in Geology and Geography. I plan on initially getting my feet wet in the oil or gas industry until I can land a job with the USGS. I was born just outside of München in Germany and grew up between München and Darmstadt until I came to the states as a teenager. Technically I'm a first generation American. I've been in the Army since I was 17 (turned 18 in basic), just over five years of active duty and the last 3 in the reserves while I go to school. I served in Southern Afghanistan in 2009-2010 as an infantryman with 1-17 Infantry Regiment in the 2nd Infantry Division, one of the toughest but best years of my life.
I got into hockey at 7 when Germany lost it's mind when Uwe Krupp scored the cup clinching goal against the Panthers. So my adopted team became the Avalanche. Go figure when my family moved to the states about 6-7 years later we'd move to Colorado. I've been to 20+ games every season since 2001, except for the lockout years and 2006-2011 when I was living in Washington State. My family had season tickets to the Broncos and Avs growing up, since then I've taken over the Avs tickets and my old man still pays for the Broncos tickets and tends to just make a killing selling them off if I don't buy the seats off him.
Sports Stuff:
NHL: Team: Colorado Avalanche. Favorite Player: All Time: Joe Sakic. Currently: Matt Duchene. Favorite Non-Av: I usually say Jerome Iginla but he's an Av now...I stopped being a fan of Kovalchuk and MSL, so I guess the next man up is Stamkos.
Soccer: Team: Bayern München. Favorite Player: All Time: Oliver Kahn Currently: Arjen Robben Favorite Non-Bavarian: Marco Reus
Football: Team: Denver Broncos. Favorite Player: All Time: Terrell Davis Currently: Peyton Manning Favorite Non-Bronco: JJ Watt.
Baseball: Stupid sport. Manboobs, cheating, couldn't be less interested.
Basketball: Another stupid sport.
International Hockey: I root for the USA over Germany at the Olympics (depending on the sport) and Hockey WC. Anything and everything soccer related I tend to disdain the USA.
TV: I love OG Top Gear. Not that lame American version. UK all the way. Movie: My favorite movie is 'The Prestige'. If you haven't watched it, you need to. Music Genres: I wont listen to: Dubstep, Country, Rap, Hip-Hop, R&B, anything that sounds like Blink 182.
I might enjoy: Alternative Rock (everything from Arcade Fire to Young Blood Hawke), Classic Rock, 80's Punk...80's anything really, Grunge, some hard rock and heavy metal...I'm really picky, nothing like Anata or Death Breath.
Favorite Groups: Pearl Jam, and a close second is the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
I'm a car guy. Understatement of the century. Growing up in Europe with a fairly well off Uncle living down the street I spent my childhood under the hood and sometimes in the driver seat of some very nice vehicles. I drive a 2010 Challenger RT, a present to myself after my deployment. I was in Germany for three weeks last month and if I was driving, I was driving a 2013 Jaguar XF. Pretty much ruined driving almost anything American made for me, I've decided my next car will definitely come from a European manufacturer. The most expensive car I've driven is a Ferrari Enzo. I was terrified and only took it to 145. I actually drove that Jaguar 149 on the Autobahn, which is the limit for pov's in Germany. (they are all 'limited" to 240khp)
Me in the NLHS: I've had two consecutive playoff seasons after finishing last place the first two seasons. I showed up right when the playoffs for the first year began.
Other GMs will likely say I'm hard to negotiate with in trades. I probably over analyze, but in the end it prevents me from making uninformed deals.
Looking forward to trade talks with all the new guys, and running the league over this season with my dream team.

I probably over analyze, but in the end it prevents me from making uninformed deals. Looking forward to trade talks with all the new guys, and running the league over this season with my dream team. First off Matt, thanks for your service. Secondly, I have a good friend of mine that was on that 2000-2001 Cup winning team; Shjon Podein is from my hometown and I've done some charity stuff with him. He had his annual fundraising party a couple weeks back and with the Wild and the Avs now rivals, it made for some interesting moments when an autographed Wild jersey and a trip to see Wild/Blackhawks in Chicago were auctioned off. As for me, I'm Andy. I'm 25 and I live with my fiance in the tiny town of Fulda, MN. We rent from her sister and brother in law, complete with an overzealous watchdog named Buster. I say overzealous because the city's been doing road work on our street all this week and he finds it important to inform us all morning that said workers and their trucks are a threat to the household. Hockey wise, I covered Minnesota State-Mankato Maverick men's hockey for 4 seasons (Famous alums include Team USA captain David Backes and Calder Cup winner and Playoff MVP Travis Morin) so I'm still relatively connected to the college hockey scene. I was also a Florida Panther season ticket holder last season, proving that yes, they do have fans. Internationally, outside of Team USA, I root for Latvia of all teams. The Mavericks have a Latvian player named Teddy Blueger, and so I've found their rise pretty interesting. Off the ice, as I said, I've been engaged for almost a year with a wedding next June. She grew up playing basketball, so about the most she gets out of hockey is commenting on Don Cherry's suits every week. Best job I ever had was working at Disney World on an internship, and I got to be good friends with Tigger and an Army Man from Toy Story (Disney Cast Member speak for the people who are characters. I wasn't one; my roommate was and so some mornings I'd wake up to pages of practice autographs strewn on the kitchen table). However, my new love is soccer. I'm a part owner of Swansea City of the Premier League, and they're coming to Minnesota in 10 days so I'm quite excited for it. If you're into the Twitter thing, I'm @andy_sorensen. Among the people and things I've suckered into following me include the Lightning and Panthers, Tom Green, Dana Carvey, and Tony Hawk. Stephen Harper and the former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd followed me at one point as well.

I'm Rob Catarino, Owner/GM of the Ottawa 67s. I'm 33 years old, married - no kids...yet - and live in Toronto, Ontario. I graduated from Mohawk College (Hamilton) and Ryerson University (Toronto) and now work as an urban planner for a small area just outside of Toronto. I'm presently enrolled at Sheridan College (Oakville) to obtain a certificate in GIS. I'm 1/2 way through and finding it hard to stay motivated in these summer months to do school work. I'm looking forward to finishing this December and see what opportunities present themselves.
Quick Hits:
Sports played: ball hockey, slo-pitch and golf TV Sports: NHL (Senators), BPL (Arsenal), MLS (TFC), MLB (Jays), CFL (Ti-Cats), NFL (Lions) TV Shows: Suits, Top Gear (UK only), Big Bang, True Blood, Walking Dead Could do without: Joe Bowen & Jim Ralph Favourite Car: VW GOLF R 400, let me wipe up some drool before continuing here....... Music: Classic rock and alternative Favourite bands: Foo Fighters, Rush, ACDC Favourite interest: exploring the world via beer and travelling! I had the opportunity this summer, in Brussels, to savour the rarest of rarest Trappist beers - Westvleteren. I have officially had each one...took me about a decade to accomplish this goal. Delicious. Game shows: Family Feud "Survey Says....." This will be the 67's 2nd year. I'm looking forward to building a competitive team and playing/interacting with all of you folks.
Rob
Last year Jon Clark, Hamilton Tigers, whom I work with introduced me to NLHS. I've had a great time interacting with everyone on the boards here.

Forgot to do favorite players. Hockey: Team: Medveščak Zagreb All-time: Off the board pick, Toby Petersen. He was my favorite WBS Penguin growing up and the first player I ever met in person. He helped inspire me when I was first diagnosed. Sad to hear he retired recently. Outside of WBS, Martin Straka...who also just retired. Fuck this offseason. Current NHL: I don't really watch, but really any Vermont alum...MSL and Sharp are 1A/1B. Trouba and Nyquist also. Gaudreau doesn't really count but he's up there. Borna Rendulić, recent Avs signing, as well. Current KHL: Since my favorite Medveščak player (Matt Murley) just signed with Slovan, I'll go with Saša Martinović. Current anywhere else in Europe: Kenny MacAulay of Olimpija Ljubljana. Former Medveščak man who went to UVM. Soccer: Teams: MLS - Philadelphia Union, EPL - Southampton Favorite All-time: Zlatan Ibrahimović Favorite Current MLS (Union): Cristian Maidana has been growing on me recently. Still like Okugo, MacMath, and Pfeffer more. #1 is probably Pfeff... Favorite Current MLS (non-Union): JACK MCINERNEY. COME BACK WE NEED YOU Favorite Current Southampton: Dejan Lovren Baseball: Team: Boston Red Sox Favorite All-time: Pedro Martinez Favorite Current Red Sox: Victorino, but Brock Holt has been awesome to watch recently. Hitting everything and making catches like crazy. Favorite: Current non-Red Sox: Anyone who embarrasses the Yankees in any way. CFL: Team: Winnipeg Blue Bombers Favorite All-time: Relatively new so I missed the Stegall era and we were so damn unstable that I don't have one. Favorite Current Blue Bomber: Alex Suber, but Grigsby and Willy are rising fast. Favorite Current non-Blue Bomber: Chad Owens, used to be Calvillo but retirement EDIT: Forgot one. Basketball Team: Undecided, I wanted whatever team Saric went to, but I don't think I can take more masochism with the Sixers...

We also have a Latvian player coming in next year, by the name of Haralds Egle. (Also as you probably know, Teddy Blueger is just a nickname, as his real name is Teodors Blugers. Seriously, Dinamo Riga games suck for me cause I can never spell or pronounce their names)

Hello everyone, my name is Jonathan (I usually go by Jon though), I am 18 and I am from the Annapolis Valley area of Nova Scotia. I will be going into my second year of studies at the University of Kings College and Dalhousie University in Halifax this fall. I plan on doing a double major in Canadian Studies and History, and eventually getting a BEd so I can become a teacher, preferably at the high school level. (It runs in the family, my mom, uncle, aunt, on both sides of the family either were or are teachers, and my grandpa was a principal in Toronto.) I have been a part of NLHS since Season 2, and my Titans have had some ups and downs during my tenure, but we are looking to always be competitive. I too have been a hockey fan my whole life. I am a big Montreal Canadiens fan, which has been very entertaining growing up in an area that is predominantly Leafs Country. In my spare time, I play video games and unsuccessfully try to find employment. I am also a diehard Halifax Mooseheads fan, and I have gone to school with a few guys who have played in the QMJHL, one of which is a Blackhawks prospect! I do not follow the KHL as religiously as Locria, but I still follow it with great interest, and CSKA Moscow are my favourite team in that league, although I may have a soft spot for newcomers Jokerit. I guess I am just a sports nut in general, which is hilarious when you consider my lack of athletic abilities (although I have played a number of sports) and general lack of athletic history in my family, except for my great great uncle (Ab Box), a Canadian Football Hall of Famer and 2-time Grey Cup Champion with the Toronto Argonauts (1933) and the Balmy Beach Beachers (1930). Favourite sports teams: NHL: Montreal Canadiens - Fav Player: PK Subban - All Time: Saku Koivu Fav Player not on Montreal: Alex Ovechkin Soccer: I could go on for ages, but Montreal Impact for MLS, Manchester United for BPL and Germany for World Cup. NFL: Green Bay Packers CFL: Montreal Alouettes NBA: Boston Celtics MLB: New York Yankees (until the Expos come back) AHL: Hamilton ECHL: Wheeling SHL: MODO SM-Liiga: TPS Turku DEL: Eisbaren Berlin QMJHL: Halifax Mooseheads OHL: Owen Sound Attack WHL: Kelowna Rockets My taste in music mostly falls under classic rock, but I will listen to pretty much any genre except for country. My favourite groups are Queen, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Genesis, Ok Go, Kaiser Chiefs, Billy Talent, Fall Out Boy, etc. I am also on Twitter at @iamthechipthief

My taste in music mostly falls under classic rock, but I will listen to pretty much any genre except for country. Funny how everytime I see someone like this, I pop my stuff and they suddently change their minds Apart from that... actual intro, right? I'll keep this short, so I can keep my words for a later day Cedric, from Ottawa(ish), Ontario, in the land of snow known as Canada (it's not that bad, I swear). 21 years of age (for once, I'm not the kid in a league), fan of the Leafs, going to graduate in Accounting in December, and french speaking first (english second, although had I not mentioned it I'd bet no one would ever notice). Love my hockey stuff, music (metal is the vice, and a lot of the metal's, too) and gaming (PC + Nintendo all the way). I'm more of a strategy / RPG gamer (the JRPG-style rather then the more open worldy/First person/super decision-y WRPG style). Apart from the great atmosphere in Ottawa for Leafs games (esp when we win 6-0!!!), my only real hockey related memory that's worth repeating is that I was in the crowd the game Tavares tied then broke Gretzky's record for goals as a 16 year old. They lost 6-4 against the Ottawa 67's, on a night where the only name I heard more often then Tavares was Logan (for both Couture and MacMillan). Music... I'm sure you'll all see that side of me at some point I'm more into the melodic death scene (if you don't know who In Flames or At The Gates or Dark Tranquillity are, then there is no way you'll know of the bands I actually listen to are ), but I can enjoy some straight up death, or prog death, or prog, or doom (more lately). Gaming... I've played EA NHL ('06 until '09 when they stopped making them on PC, grr) where I would just sim dynasties over the weekends. I enjoy my Dota/Dota2 these days, with some Civ V, Distant Worlds : Universe plays in, and some 3DS such as Fire Emblem and Pheonix Wright. My favorite player is probably Backstrom (the center), although on the Leafs I like Kessel, JvR, Bernier (last 2 I liked before they were even leafs, so imagine my reactions when they got here) and I am mancrushing haaaaard on Morgan Rielly. Loving what I see there. Aaaaaand... that's it.

Civ V is my go to game right now on PC. I also am a big fan of the Fire Emblem series too. (Really need to get Awakening) My go to game is Dota (has been for years now), but Civ V was for a while (I play that in spurts... months of addiction, then year of isolation, then another month of addiction). Same with Eastside Hockey Manager 2007. My current "Non-Dota" go-to is Distant Worlds. It's pretty ambitious in that you can micro manage as much or as little as you want (have the AI do what you don't!). It's huge in scale, but also depth. It's been around for years but has been getting expansions throughout, and I've only just got it last month, but I already soaked 2 games in (38 hours, according to Steam) and it really is a nice experience. And do yourself a favor and do pick up Awakening. It's great. Introduces some nice concepts, and it's typical Fire Emblem, but what really seals the deal is the music (and the whole having 2 characters lead to 1 kid adds more variability in subsequent playthroughs, although I've only had one, since I played Bravely Default right after). The music is truly amazing. IMO, of course.

Playing Civ V has really kicked up my desire to play Age of Empires and Rise of Nations again, both of those being games that I play in spurts. Same goes for Eastside and any EA Sports game I have.
Im thinking about asking for Awakening for my birthday, which is next month, but then there is all the stuff associated with moving into an apartment in the city, paying for all that stuff, not to mention the plethora of great 3DS games out there that I dont own or are upcoming (Super Smash Bros. 4, Tomodachi Life, Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, Mario Kart 7, A Link Between Worlds, Ocarina of Time 3D, all the Mario games, etc.)
I tried the demo for Bravely Default, but I just could not get into it, which is weird because I usually eat up RPGS (Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy, Pokemon, etc.)

how interesting a leafs fan in ottawa and a senators fan in toronto Yeah. Plus, I got to see the 67's more then a few times, since my grade school used to draw tickets every once in a while. I thought the Tavares vs 67's story would have caught your eye more then the Leafer from Ottawa.
