So glad Canada's Women's Soccer Team got Bronze after being screwed out of a chance to play for Gold.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and the St. Louis Cardinals are tied 3-3 in the 19th inning... I've been at a few Chicago Cubs games that went extra innings that got suspended by darkness before they had lights. They did not install lights until 1988. They would pick up the game the next day at the point it left off and then have another game following. Games called on account of darkness. Yes, they really did happen. Also, what ever happened to doubleheaders? The greedy owners and players are all about revenue. What ever happened to mavericks like Bill Veeck? Now he was a fan's owner. A shower in Center Field, Disco Demolition (Google it, I was there!), an Exploding Scoreboard. This was on the other side of town at the Chicago White Sox games!

What was it like being there at Disco Demolition Night?

What was it like to be at Disco Demolition?
It was total pandomonium. It was a doubleheader. Disc Jockey Steve Dahl blew up disco records in center field in between the first and second games. It was like 99 cents to get in if you brought a disco record to blow up. This was 1979. I was in high school.
It turned into complete anarchy. Fires were being set. Fans were all over the field, tearing it up. Play by play man Harry Caray and White Sox owner Bill Veeck got on the PA and implored the fans who were on the field to return to their seats. To no avail. The White Sox had to forfeit the 2nd game of the doubleheder to the Detroit Tigers.
They brought in Chicago Police on horseback in full riot gear to clear the park. It was downright scary, It took me forever to get home. I had to take the el train and it was so chaotic it was delayed for hours. It took forever to get home, and my parents were frantic by the time I finally got home.
Steve Dahl is still a disc jockey on Chicago radio. It made national news, and is a legendary incident and still talked about to this day. There is some footage of this on youtube and some sites on the web that talk about it. A night which will definitely live in infamy. Steve Dahl and Garry Meier still take credit for killing disco.
Disco sucks was the phrase of the day, and I say disco STILL sucks!

Personally, I kinda like disco. (Classic rock is my favourite genre, just for the record.) However, it was such a fad compared to just about any other genre of music.

The Disco that has survived isn't bad and a lot of it is good. But at the time there was a lot of bad Disco, cheesy and nauseating. That can really be said for any genre when it gets popular, producers rush as much of it to market as they can as fast as they can to make the quick cash grab.
Luckily the crap sinks and the actual decent stuff usually lasts. That's why music from past years always seems to be better than stuff coming out presently.
