FUCK the new names. They're still Smythe, Norris, Patrick, and Adams to me. Once you go Norris, you never go back.

Looked at the NBC schedule and it SICKENS me. Breakdown by team, excluding NHLN-US: Anaheim - 4x Boston - 15x!!! Buffalo - 12x!!! Calgary - 0x!!! Carolina - 1x Chicago - 18x!!!!! Colorado - 3x Columbus - 2x Dallas - 3x Detroit -13x!!! Edmonton - 0x!!! Florida - 1x L.A. - 8x Minnesota - 12x Montreal - 3x Nashville - 3x New Jersey - 8x NY Islanders - 4x NY Rangers - 16x!!! - What the fuck is this? One NY team gets a million games and the other gets jacksquat. Ottawa - 1x (Heritage Classic) Philadelphia - 19x!!!! Phoenix - 2x Pittsburgh - 18x!!!! San Jose - 5x St. Louis - 13x!!! (Good to see them finally get publicity though) Tampa Bay - 3x Toronto - 1x (Winter Classic) Vancouver - 1x (Heritage Classic) Washington - 14x!!! Winnipeg - 0x!!!! Shutout teams: Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton Most popular: Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Chicago, NYR, Boston, Detroit, Buffalo, St. Louis, Minnesota all with 10+ games. Are you honestly shitting me? I know they're trying to avoid Canadian teams for ratings' sake, but why can't they show a Canadian team and a popular American team? Winnipeg/Chicago would be nice...Edmonton/LA as a followup to the Yakupov game last year....Calgary's sorta boned but you don't just snub them! The only reason they're showing any Canadian team that isn't Montreal is because they're in an outdoor game. As an American-based fan of a Canadian team, this makes me SICK. Worst part is, the guys at the top don't care! They actually said Milbury and McGuire were player-loved experts...WTF IS HE SMOKING?! Mike Milbury destroyed the Islanders and when McGuire coached the Whalers, Pat Verbeek, then the Whalers' captain, was overjoyed when he was fired! Here, let me quote an article from the Hartford Courant from May 21, 1994: "In a blistering post-mortem, captain Pat Verbeek called McGuire's firing the best thing that could have happened to the Whalers. He said other teams mocked their coach. He said his own teammates had no respect for McGuire. He said a number of players wouldn't have wanted to play in Hartford anymore. Is Verbeek telling the truth? It sure looks that way. Every player and every non-skating member of the Whalers does not have the financial luxury or the courage to speak on the record as Verbeek and Sean Burke have. But in the past six weeks, we spoke to no fewer than 20 people --from all areas of the organization. The support for McGuire was almost nonexistent. It turns out that it wasn't only the players. It was almost everybody. And once owner Richard Gordon was convinced of the facts, McGuire was out."

They're playing to the markets that watch the games, but I think a good part of why they don't cover Canadian games is that a lot of the American market has access to CBC, which covers those teams and does it quite a bit better. I'd take the Canadian teams out the equation and look at the poorly covered American markets. It' tougher for the smaller markets that play defensive oriented hockey (Phoenix and nashville), but lots of those teams have superstars (Tampa Bay, Carolina, San Jose, Anaheim, Islanders) and future superstars (Colorado, Dallas). One of hockey's biggest marketing advantages is that a good portion of the players are still decent human beings. It's pretty hard to introduce them to a new audience when the national broadcaster doesn't care about them.

I do not have CBC, I think only two major metro areas get it (Detroit and Buffalo...MAYBE Seattle)

Might order NHL Centre Ice this year since I managed to switch some package bundles and lower the price.. will see if NHL Centre Ice is to my liking this year after a few years of stream links for NHL games and others...
