So I was brainstorming the US national team at the 2014 Olympics, here's what I came up with.
Parise - Pavelski - Kane Pominville - Kesler - Ryan Callahan - Backes - Kessel van Riemsdyk - Dubinsky - Brown
Spares: Pacioretty, Wheeler
First line worked in Vancouver. Second line provides some nice scoring, Pominville dishing it to Kesler and Ryan sounds good in theory. Third line provides a nice two-way game (other than the offense offense offense Kessel), while the fourth line provides grit, although there's probably a better fit than Dubinsky. I find Wheeler's size and speed to be appealing tools, while Pacioretty had a career year. I was pondering replacing someone with Stepan, but decided against it.
Suter - Shattenkirk Orpik - Bogosian Yandle - Faulk
Spare: Gleason
Suter and Shattenkirk on the power play just sounds scary, plus they aren't bad in their own zone. Orpik and Bogosian could kill penalties all day, plus they'd be freaking huge (Orpik is 6'2", Bogosian 6'3") and Bogosian could occasionally be used on the power play. Yandle and Faulk are two great young offensive defensemen who could be used on the PP. I prefer Gleason due to his sound positional play and shutdown ability.
Quick Miller Howard

So it sounds like there will be a clarification and maybe a change to the wording of the new faceoff rule after the Preds talked to Toronto. All parties agree that it should not have been a penalty on Gaustad.
Similar to how the Preds had to be hosed in the shootout before that rule was changed. It was Roenick scoring on a rebound in the shootout against the Preds that had the league clarify that you could not score on a rebound. Of course, it was too late to help the Preds who lost that game because of it. Talk about a bad luck team!

and we're off Dan! Preds snapped the Sharks hot start and sent them into a funk, they'll do the same thing to the Hawks, especially after being pissed off last night on a BS call. Do they have problems with the ice surface in Nashville? The Hawks announcers were mentioning it. Man, Brandon Saad is looking like a good player. Beat Erat to that puck, and Erat is fast. Saad hasn't shown up on the scoresheet much yet, but he seems to have a nose for the puck and is good defensively. Of course, playing on the Hawks top line dosen't hurt.

not that i've ever known of. It's not the fine surface in Montreal or Edmonton, but it's never been noted as particularly bad.
The Preds evil twins showed up today, the ones who don't want to shoot the puck. Can't pass, can't skate and don't have much interest in actually winning hockey games. Wilson generated a few chances in the last 5 minutes, but otherwise it was all Hawks. It's telling when the Preds broadcast is interviewing Marcus Kruger after the game...

So here's an interesting poll question. Who is your favorite player not on your favorite team?
My top 5:
Toews (this generation's Steve Yzerman - watch, a Wings fan is going to shoot me now) Datsyuk (sick mitts and he's really humble about it too; also sound defensively) Conacher (a fellow type 1 diabetic who happens to be the new Marty St. Louis) Granlund (see Datsyuk; he's one of the biggest celebrities in Finland) Vlasic (great on the PP, solid defensively with a kickass nickname to boot)

That one is tough because I will exclude Predators, Flyers and notable ex-Preds and ex-Flyers.
1. Martin Brodeur - Even if you hated the Devil's trap, Marty is a spectacular goaltender and the kind of team player and company man that you want with your franchise. You probably don't want him marrying your sister.
2. Jaromir Jagr - One of the greatest players of all-time. Probably the only player what wasn't really affected by the "dead puck" era. Plus as he showed through the lockout, he's got pretty good business sense and his opinions typically ran counter to the NHLPA, he spoke the truth and displayed a desire to strike a fair deal and get back to hockey vs all of the useless posturing and senseless positions that the two sides took.
3. Saku Koivu - Unquestioned heart and dedication to the game. Adding a high level of talent doesn't hurt either. His comeback from cancer was one of the most memorable NHL nights in the last 20 years.
4. Roman Hamrlik - With Chelios, Recchi and Lidstrom retired, Hamrlik (along with Brodeur and Selanne) takes over as the symbol of longevity although he probably won't get the recognition for it which is the summary of his entire career. He's never been viewed in the elite level of defensemen, but he has performed at a very high level for a very long time. Seems like a career path that would be ideal for a kid coming into the league. Never had the super intense pressure, never had the catastrophic injuries, but he's banked a ton of cash and had some success on the way. Only drawback is that he will almost definitely retire without a cup win, though Olympic Gold is nice for him as a Czech player.
5. Rick Nash - No player of his skill level had to suffer in the basement as long as Nash did, and he never complained. He was a fantastic ambassador for the BJ's and his game really evolved over the years to where he could be trusted in every zone. Glad he's out of the Central Division and I can finally just enjoy his goal scoring abilities.

Toews - I was fully prepared to trade my entire team plus all the draft picks I had for him. My favorite player of todays NHL. 2. Kane - The kid seems to have grown up this year. Scores sick goals from impossible angles, the most famous bringing a Stanley Cup to Chicago after a 49 year drought. 3. Hossa - Incredible strength, sometimes 3 opponents cannot knock him off the puck. 4.Sedins - Love to hate them but their talent cannot be denied. 5. Eberle - I may have to choose between him and Taresenko in the dispersal draft. A very tough decision there. I envision Eberle as being a points leader in the NHL going forward.

I had to break the rules and mention Blackhawks. Okay, here are my 5 favorites who are not.
1. Sedins.
2. Eberle.
3.St. Louis - He is a points machine.
4. Vanek - btw, love watching Sabres home games because their announcers goal calls are awesome!
5. Craig Anderson - Not an elite goalie, just a lunch pail guy who usually gets the job done. Underrated and dosen't get the accolades he should.

If you need any reason to think Pittsburgh is going downhill, here's something: After 2014-15, only four players are under contract: Fleury, Crosby, Neal, and Martin. Plus, other than Crosby or Malkin, what is there? James Neal? Oh, wait, remember how much he sucked when he was first traded there and both of them were hurt? Thought so - he's just the new Warren Young or Jonathan Cheechoo. Their time and (cap) space are running out quickly.

That's okay, I think Columbus has a clown car parked out back at all times, when they fire a staff member they just grab the next clown to fill his position.

Colin Wilson does it again. Scores the OT winner in a 1-0 win over the Sharks.
Preds killed 6 penalties in the 2nd period.
