So through the first 5 games this year the Preds are averaging just 1.6 goals for per game... Today it's revealed that their leading goalscorer for the last 3 years, Patric Hornqvist, is out for the next 3-4 weeks... My crystal ball foresees fantastic draft position for the Preds this summer. ...and Shutout by the Coyotes last night with goalie Chad Johnson. maybe you didn't hear me, Chad Johnson was starting for the Coyotes. it's okay, last year the Jets lost to Sebastian freakin' Caron

Was it two days after losing in the shootout to Ducks goalie Viktor Fasth in his NHL debut?

The Phoenix Coyotes are averaging about 30% below full attendance through their first 4 home games.

My favourite spot would be Quebec City, for a few reasons, but I'd be fine if they moved to somewhere like Houston or Seattle, and perhaps Kansas City too.

Fun facts about NHL teams & relocation:
The St. Louis Blues almost moved to Saskatoon in 1983, but the NHL BoG rejected the move, and almost dissolved the franchise before someone stepped in at the last minute.
The New Jersey Devils nearly moved to Nashville in 1995, but their owner reached a renegotiated lease agreement in the middle of July.
Their previous incarnation, the Colorado Rockies, were the subject of a relocation attempt by the mayor of Hamilton in 1980, but he lost his re-election bid, and so that failed.
The Edmonton Oilers almost became the NHL's version of the Houston Oilers, but last-minutes saviors prevented another Canadian NHL team from going down south.
Also can't forget RIM Jim's attempts to get one of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Nashville Predators or Phoenix Coyotes to move to Hamilton. Kansas City has also made moves on the Penguins and Islanders.
Southwestern Ontario and Las Vegas have also been mentioned as possible relocation candidates.

My favourite spot would be Quebec City, for a few reasons, but I'd be fine if they moved to somewhere like Houston or Seattle, and perhaps Kansas City too. I think Houston would be a terrible option, Dallas was 2nd worst in the league in attendance last season averaging 76% and only finishing ahead of PHX at 72%. The league needs to recognize that hockey in the southern states is just never going to rival football, basketball and baseball. Even their college teams in football and basketball garner more interest. The arenas in the south that do relatively well do so due to heavily depressed ticket prices that are a fraction of the cost of the big markets. I would throw Markham in the mix and I think they might have the inside track at a new franchise. They just got city council approval for their new state of the art 20,000 seat arena. sports.nationalpost.com/2013/01/30/markham-city-council-votes-against-motion-to-reject-financial-framework-of-potential-nhl-ready-arena/During the initial stages of the project, Roustan was adamant the NHL was not the goal of the project. However, the NHL was the thrust of Kelly’s remarks, as he spoke with a casual confidence that he knew the NHL intended to expand to 32 teams.
“Putting together another NHL franchise in Markham would be very good for the league, it would be good for the players of the NHL, it would be good for hockey fans, and certainly good for citizens of this area,” Kelly told council. “Frankly, greater Toronto is the centre of the hockey universe. It is an under-served market in terms of professional ice hockey.”The southern Ontario market by far makes the most sense for the NHL from a revenue perspective as the amount of hockey fans in that area dwarfs other proposed cities. They would instanty become a top 10 if not top 5 revenue generating franchise. I personally feel once the arena is complete it is a no-brainer to have NHL hockey there and it will just be a matter of if they will be getting a expansion team or a relocated team.

There is no doubt in my mind that a 2nd team in the GTA would be very successful. The only question is would the bigwigs at MLSE ever allow it to happen?

I don't know all the ins and outs of territory rights, but don't believe that MLSE can just say too bad NHL you can't do that. I know that LA got 25M when Anaheim entered the league and there are also NYR, NYI and NJD all close together, more so now with NYI moving to Brooklyn. Also 2 LA teams in basketball and baseball and 2 NY and Chicago teams in baseball. I think if the league wants to put a franchise in Markham it's not up to MLSE to give them approval, but they might be compensated.

I think Basille was right that territorial rights are illegal under NAFTA. But, as we saw, the NHL doesn't have to let in anyone that wants a team, so any fees paid an agreement to be part of the NHL owners' club. I believe as long as 23 of the 30 owners agree to something, the other 7 would have to go along. As long as they make more money, it'll happen.

The question is will there be support from the higher-ups when it comes to moving the Coyotes, or would it be an expansion team. Then that raises the question, where would you put the other expansion team?

I'd just like a second team in the TO area to compete with the laffs, laffs rely on corp money and fan cash just seems petty to them. A second team would draw corp money away if the team even just makes the playoffs once, sad fact but true lol.
Just like I'd love to have the Nordiques comeback! It's sickening watching my Habs have no reason to push the envelope for its fans like they did when the Nords were competing for fans. Yes, a good number of "Habs" fans are bandwagoners when the Nords left and that's when the Habs started to fall from grace.
To end mini rant, I HATE living in laffs nation lol
