Preview and Predictions #1 Titans vs. PistolsPhilipp Cridland, Sports Reporter HALIFAX, Nova Scotia - With tomorrow being the opening game of the NLHS2 preseason, I've taken a stab at predicting how things will go at tomorrow's game at the Metro Centre. Best Centres: Titans | Not close at all. Jeff Carter and company are just more talented than the Pistols centres. However, we do need to keep into consideration that Dallas is an expansion team, and they are definitely well off considering the circumstances. Best Left Wings: Titans | Again, no competition. Wingers seem to be a weak spot throughout the league, and with the likes of Daniel Sedin and Milan Lucic on the team, the Pistols will probably have a hard time against them. Best Right Wings: Titans | See above. The Pistols have a veteran presence in Alex Kovalev, who will definitely play a mentoring role for Dallas. But gritty players like T.J. Oshie will likely wear down the Pistols. Best Defencemen: Titans | The Dallas Pistols fare so much better when it comes to the defensive aspect of the game. Their D sizes up a lot more to the Titans than their offense, but still just not quite as good. Best Goaltenders: Titans | This was very close to going in the Pistols advantage. At 41 years of age, Dwayne Roloson is still able to best the brightest young guns in the league, and his protoge James Reimer ensures that the Dallas Pistols will have a strong future when it comes to defense. Final Score: I predict a 3-0 victory for the Titans, with Daniel Sedin, Jason Pominville and T.J. Oshie each scoring a goal, but the Pistols will show that they're no pushovers.

Titans win first game Hossa has hat trick in 5-2 victoryPhilipp Cridland, Sports Reporter HALIFAX, Nova Scotia - The Nova Scotia Titans opened up their preseason at home with a convincing 5-2 victory over the Dallas Pistols. The first period was pretty quiet, until Derek Roy scored on a snap shot with 3:16 remaining. The Halifax Metro Centre erupted as a capacity crowd of 10,595 people roared in celebration! Matt Cooke assisted on the first goal. The second period got off to a bad start when Joffrey Lupul scored just six seconds in. However, just 14 seconds later, Marian Hossa scored on a rebound, and the energy returned to the Metro Centre! The game moved at a nice, quiet pace, until with 2:37 remaining, Hossa scored again! But he wasn't done yet! He scored again with 58 seconds left to complete the hat trick, and did the hats ever rain down! Play was actually stopped for 9 1/2 minutes so crews could clear the ice! The third period got off to a bad start again, as Tuomo Ruutu scored just 1:32 into the final 20 minutes. The action went sedintary again until Frans Nielsen scored with 3:34 remaining. Marc-Andre Fleury made 25 of 27 saves for the win. Dwayne Roloson stopped 39 of 44 shots in the loss. 3 Stars:1 - Marian Hossa (NST) 2 - Daniel Sedin (NST) 3 - Tuomo Ruutu (DAL) Notes: Daniel Sedin had 11 shots and 3 assists. Nova Scotia plays Ottawa on Monday.

Preview and Predictions #2 Titans vs. 67'sPhilipp Cridland, Sports Reporter HALIFAX, Nova Scotia - Best Centres: Titans | The Titans are far superior when it comes to centres. If Tim Connolly is your #1 centre, that should be some cause for concern. For contrast, Stephen Weiss, Nova Scotia's spare center, is rated slightly higher than the 67's Connolly. Best Left Wings: Titans | Tanguay and Elias are good, but after that the overall ranking drops sharply. The advantage goes to D. Sedin and company. Best Right Wings: Titans | Titans are still better in this area, but Rick Nash and Daniel Alfredsson provide some stiff competition for Marian Hossa and T.J. Oshie. Best Defencemen: 67's | With the likes of Zdeno Chara and Dion Phaneuf, Ottawa's defense is just slightly better than that of Nova Scotia's. Best Goaltenders: 67's | The 67's have the best goalies in the league. Getting shot past them will be the Nova Scotia Titans biggest test. Final Score: I think the final score will be 2-1 in favour of Nova Scotia, with two goals from Marian Hossa, and Zdeno Chara scoring for Ottawa.

Titans success continues Pull away with 6-4 victoryPhilipp Cridland, Sports Reporter OTTAWA, Ontario - The Nova Scotia Titans built on their momentum from Saturday's 5-2 win over the Dallas Pistols and they came away with a 6-4 victory over the Ottawa 67's. The first period was filled with action, but nobody scored until 12:28 into the period, when Daniel Sedin unleashed a blistering slapshot past 67's goalie Tim Thomas. Then 33 seconds later, the Titans made it 2-0 when David Krecji deflected Alexander Edler's shot past Thomas. However, with just under four minutes to go in the first, Tomas Fleischmann redirected Rich Nash's shot past Marc-Andre Fleury to make it 2-1 Nova Scotia. Just over four minutes into the second period, Daniel Alfredsson scored on a strong slapshot right off the face-off to tie it all up at 2-2. But 13 seconds later, Jeff Carter retook the lead for the Titans with a nice snapshot, making it 3-2. And then 24 seconds after that, Daniel Sedin scored to make it 4-2 for the Titans. But 11 minutes into the second period, Patrick Elias made things close again when his goal made it 4-3. Then, with a minute and forty-one seconds to go, Jeff Carter scored again, making the score 5-3 for Nova Scotia going into the second intermission. 7:17 into the third period, Alex Tanguay scored on a beautiful wrist shot, making it a one-goal game once again, the score now being 5-4. But the 67's would never get a hold of the lead. Jason Pominville essentially sealed the deal when he scored with 3:06 left in the game. Ottawa didn't have much scoring chances after that. 3 Stars:1 - Jeff Carter (NST) 2 - Daniel Sedin (NST) 3 - Chris Pronger (NST) The Titans head back home to face their Maratime rivals, the Moncton Mariners, on Wednesday!

be careful... the Legion (then beasts) had the best record in the league at the all-star break last season with Fleury in net... then went on to lose 18 of 20 and finish out of the playoffs
(could also have something to do with trading away all-star wingers Loui Eriksson and Phil Kessel)

Yeah, it's nice to have results early, but getting them late in the season and in the playoffs is really important.

Titans score big preseason win over Mariners Pominville has hat-trick, Titans win 6-3Philipp Cridland, Sports Reporter HALIFAX, Nova Scotia - Jason Pominville scored a hat trick as the Nova Scotia Titans beat the Moncton Mariners in the first match-up between the two Maratime NLHS teams. The first period had its fill of offense, but there wouldn't be any goals until halfway through the period, when Mariners forward Jason Spezza skated the length of the ice and flicked a nice wrist shot past Marc-Andre Fleury to make it 1-0 Mariners. But two minutes and eleven seconds later, Marian Hossa scored his fourth of the preseason to make it 1-1. The second period saw lots of shots, 16 from the Mariners and 12 from the Titans. Brent Burns scored five minutes into the second to give Moncton the lead, but that would be the last time they had it. Jason Pominville ripped a shot past Tomas Vokoun to tie it up at 2-2, and he certainly would not be done. About three minutes later, he'd do it again giving the Titans the lead. Almost three minutes into the third, David Krecji, Victor Hedman and Jason Pominville had four shots between them in twenty seconds. The first three missed the net. The fourth one was blocked by the Mariners' Alex Goligoski, and then Jason Pominville snapped a shot. The crowd went wild. Pominville was the second player in as many home games to get a hat trick. (The other of course, was Marian Hossa Saturday against Dallas.) Play was only stopped for 7 minutes this time while crews cleared the ice of hats, but their passion was just as high for Pominville as it was for Hossa's hat trick. However, six minutes later, the Moncton Mariners' Steve Ott scored to make it 4-3, causing some concern among the fans. But not to worry, David Krecji would score with 4 minutes left in the game to give the Titans some breathing room. And for extra assurance, Jeff Carter scored with forty-two seconds left to make the final score 6-3. Nova Scotia Titans General Manager/Owner Jonathan Hiseler had this to say about the game: "I am very pleased about how our Titans played tonight. They showed immense passion, and I'm very excited for this year!"The Titans have Friday off, before playing the Mariners again on Sunday in Moncton.
