I've been thinking about this for two years now, and with the success of this season I have finally been able to come to terms and make a full commitment to the decision. The Legion will cease operations following the Cup Finals, all of our players will be available in the dispersal draft.
Why have I come to this decision?
The job of commissioner is a very demanding one, I also have a commitment to family, career and education. On top of this I manage a team in another league that also requires a certain amount of my time and attention. The Legion have nothing left to prove, and to be honest the success of the team combined with my duties as commissioner leave me feeling somewhat uncomfortable at times.
What does this mean for the league?
The league will continue to function as normal, I will continue all commissioner duties. Some of the time spent on my own team will now be allocated toward the improvement of the overall league. Another side to this is that I will assume light GM duties for any teams that become vacant during the coarse of each season. I won't go in depth like I have with the Legion, but I will set decent lines, sign free agents and even trade players which has been a real hangup with vacant teams in the past 4 seasons.
The Future:
I do however plan to return to GM action in the future. One day we will have a fully functional website that automates the majority of the commissioner duties. Once that version of the site is available, I will return and manage a new expansion team.

Ryan, Thanks so much for staying on as Commissioner. I do understand the demand of "real life" situations and applaud you for hanging in this long. Thanks again.... and don't wait too long to come back or my team will crush you...

Thanks, the more time I can spend on programming a new site, the better the league will be in the long run. One day this will be an unmatched league, the duties of commissioner will be automated and the duties of GM will be made to function completely in the browser, so no need to e-mail and hope that I get your instructions in time, or to go back and forth in trade talks and then wait for me to process.
In fact that will be one of the best features. GM's will be able to submit offers to others, as well as counter-offers all through the website. Once accepted, rosters will be updated immediately in real time and new lines can be set. It's still a while from now, but I promise it is coming. In the meantime, I think just having the ability for all teams to interact and participate will be a huge boost to the overall league.

When you have something like that, you will have a highly salable product that would be right up there with STHS and FHM, but likely better than both. We all will be happy to be beta testers.

Thanks for staying as commish man. Gonna miss our epic duels with the Legion though, even though we lose to them too much. Couldn't have been an easy decision.

Wow, that couldn't have been an easy decision for you to have made Ryan, but I'm sure you'll continue to do a great job!

Actually it was pretty easy to make this decision, it was the past two seasons that it wasn't. I had this idea of a roaming GM/commish for years now butI couldn't commit to it and didn't want to drop GM duties of a single team and regret it. Now I don't feel that way at all, it's pretty clear that I can enjoy commissioner only duties and step in for inactive GM's where needed. I just hope that Weber and Tavares go to good homes

A coach signed by another team prior to his team being in the Stanley Cup Final? Trying to screw up the coach's head so the Legion can't 3-peat? That dispersal draft looks like it's gonna have a ton of star players. Tough to pick only 2. Do the rest go into the expansion draft first or the entry draft?

Trying to screw up the coach's head so the Legion can't 3-peat? Jan Mursak played in the AHL final last year AFTER signing in the KHL for this season, so it's not unheard of... That dispersal draft looks like it's gonna have a ton of star players. Tough to pick only 2. Do the rest go into the expansion draft first or the entry draft? Last year it was free agency IIRC

Free agency looks like lots of solid players but I'm swearing off the geezers this time, lol.
Although I'm leaning on keeping Prospal this year. My 4th line is gonna have some expensive wingers with Prospal and Brown. But both can move up when injuries occur and their leadership is worth it.
