www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2012/08/10/khl_nhl_sources_lockout/The PA is working with the KHL to play games against KHL teams in cities like Quebec and a yet to be named Southern Ontario city ahem HAMILTON. among other things to do for the players during the lockout. THe PA is not going to give in and back down this time around. The rangers in the paperwork they submitted show an operating loss in HRR this season I call BS on that one. The owners are coming up with some creative accounting if the RAGS have shown a loss.

I sure hope the NHL and NHLPA can get the new CBA agreement hammered out and signed before that Sept 15th deadline.. but I have to wonder if it will be enough to damage everything for a long time after???

NBC buying Versus is big. A lockout would be devasting to the momemtum recently gained. Fehr wrecked baseball. Now hes trying to do hockey the same way.

I say Bettman is the bigger culprit here and I like the idea of the PA negotiating the WC out of the season that game has lost all it's meaning and nostalgia by having it every season.

I say Bettman is the bigger culprit here and I like the idea of the PA negotiating the WC out of the season that game has lost all it's meaning and nostalgia by having it every season. What exactly has Bettman done? he works for and speaks for the owners, so that's where your blame should lie. The NHL players earn the highest % of league revenue out of the big 4, even though the NHL generates the least revenue of the big 4. Honestly, the biggest blame in my opinion has always been James Norris. He owned half the league back in the "Glorious" Original Six (original FARCE) era, and blocked every attempt at expansion. While other leagues were planting roots and building national followings, Norris and the NHL were stubborn and greedy. The real continent wide league didn't star taking shape until the 80's. So the NHL was at least 40 years behind the rest of the leagues and it's the reason why there is such disparity between traditional and non-traditional markets today. Back to Bettman, the anti-Bettman hate from Canada is laughable. He didn't steal any teams from Canada, the Jets have moved back, QC is going to get another team either through relocation or expansion and Markham is likely to get one. So lets not pretend that Bettman hates Canada. Canada wanted to cry poor in the 90's and would have KILLED to have the revenue sharing system of today. But now that economic situations have reversed, Canada cries about how unfair it is that they have to share with some US cities. As fans we really shouldn't care about what country supports more, how much some teams are losing, how much players make, etc, etc. We should simply be rooting for whatever makes the overall league healthy and keeps hockey on the ice. Anyone who doesn't realize that putting hockey in non-traditional markets and allowing it to grow for 40-50 years, even if that means supplementing teams financially while they go through growing pains, is the ONLY way to keep the NHL relevant in the long run is being shortsighted and/or influenced by others who are.

I would be willing to bet that Bettman formulates the shit that gets passed to the owners to vote on many owners and GMs did not give him much of a glowing review at last years GM meetings. I have a funny feeling that much of this crap comes from him as past commish of the NBA he puts it together and the owners then vote on it. I seriously doubt the owners sit around and call each other to say ok lets come up with this that is why they have a Commish to do that for them then they say yay or nay. I fully support owners making as much money as humanly possible and I fully oppose the REV sharing and salary cap cost certainty and equal playing field my ass the rich teams still overspend and the poor teams eek out an existence.

It sounds like more players are starting to look at places to play during the lockout. There's talk of Thronton and Nash going to Davos, Switzerland, Selanne going to Jokerit, and the Sedin twins going to MODO.
