Preview and Predictions #2 Clippers vs. Prairie DogsFrederic Aucoin, Sports Reporter SYDNEY, Nova Scotia - Let's take a look at tomorrow's game at Centre 200. Best Centres: Clippers | Stephen Weiss and Scott Gomez will square off, and in the end, Weiss' team has the advantage. There's just more depth on the Clippers. Best Left Wings: Clippers | Again, there's just more depth on the Clippers than the Prairie Dogs. Best Right Wings: Clippers | Odessa fares slightly better in this area, but in the end, the Clippers have the advantage once again. Best Defencemen: Clippers | This was really close, as Odessa has many talented defensemen, such as Andrew Alberts and Erik Karlsson. Best Goaltenders: Prairie Dogs | MacDonald and Auld are just slightly better than Boucher and Harding. Final Score: It'll be close, but the Clippers will prevail 2-0, with the goals being scored by Stephen Weiss and Pierre-Marc Bouchard.

Clippers win close one Blow 4-0 lead, but win 6-5 in SOFrederic Aucoin, Sports Reporter SYDNEY, Nova Scotia - They almost blew it in their opening preseason game, but the Cape Breton Clippers managed to hang on for a 6-5 shootout win over the Odessa Prairie Dogs. P.A. Parenteau and Bryan Little scored in the first to make it 2-0 after 20 minutes. In the second, Chad LaRose and P.A. Parenteau scored for Cape Breton, while Mike Lundin scored for Odessa. In the third, Bryan Little scored again for the Clippers, but the Prairie Dogs really piled it on, with two goals from Trevor Lewis and single scores from Spencer Machachek and Brian Sutherby. After an uneventful overtime, the shootout occurred. No one scored until the fourth round. Scott Nichol deked by Brian Boucher for the score. The pressure was now on Nathan Gerbe as it was do or die time, and he delivered with a beautiful wrist shot that sent the 5000 people at Centre 200 into a frenzy. After Odessa’s Tim Stalpeton’s shot missed the net, it was all up to Derrick Brassard to seal the deal. And he did, with a nice quick snap shot that Joey MacDonald didn’t have much of a chance against. 3 Stars1 - Trevor Lewis (OPD) 2 - Bryan Little (CBC) 3 - PA Parenteau (CBC) The Clippers are off to Gatineau to play the Bolts on Monday.

Clippers beat Bolts 4-2 Yonkman ejected in secondFrederic Aucoin, Sports Reporter GATINEAU, Quebec - The Cape Breton Clippers managed to come away with another win in the preseason, and they did it without one of their Top-2 defensemen for most of the game. Nolan Yonkman was ejected in the second period after receiving a game misconduct for unsportsman-like conduct, after he punched Gatineau Bolts defenseman Nick Schultz in the face. This was seen as retaliation for Yonkman taking Schultz's shot in the stomach. He was promptly ejected by referee Frederick L'Ecuyer. Marty Reasoner of the Bolts scored 13:24 into the first on a rebound after his shot was blocked by Cape Breton Clippers defenseman David Hale. Byron Bitz scored three minutes later to make it 2-0 for the Bolts. But P.A. Parenteau scored on a quick wrist shot to shorten Gatineau's lead to 2-1 heading into the first intermission. 13:51 into the second period, the Cape Breton Clippers' Nathan Gerbe scored to tie things up at 2-2. Gerbe's goal came a minute after Yonkman's ejection. Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored with 4 minutes left in the third on a powerplay to make it 3-2 for the Clippers. And with 26 seconds left, Bryan scored to ensure the Cape Breton Clippers a victory. 3 Stars:1 - PA Parenteau (CBC) 2 - Bryan Little (CBC) 3 - Pierre-Marc Bouchard (CBC) The Clippers will play host to the Lake Placid Olympians on Wednesday.

Clippers lose close one to Olympians Bouchard has goal and assist in lossFrederic Aucoin, Sports Reporter SYDNEY, Nova Scotia - The Cape Breton Clippers suffered their first defeat of the preseason on Wednesday, a 5-3 loss to the Lake Placid Olympians. A completely uneventful first period gave way to a flurry of activity in the second. Ville Leino of the Lake Placid Olympians opened the scoring a minute and nine seconds into the period. Forty-seven seconds later, Justin Abdelkader scored to make it 2-0. But almost four minutes later, Tyler Ennis got a shot past Robin Lehner to make it 2-1. Six minutes later, Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored to tie it up. Forty-three seconds later, P.A. Parenteau redirected Nathan Gerbe's shot to make it 3-2 for the Clippers. But then forty-one seconds later, Ville Leino scored again to tie it up at 3-3. Lots of shots were made in the third period, but it was another goal by Justin Abdelkader that would be the game-winner. It occurred 8:23 into the final twenty minutes. Zack Smith scored an empty net goal with five seconds left to finish the game. The Clippers have the next day of games off, before playing a rematch against the Olympians Sunday in Lake Placid.

Clippers win a BIG Game 7 Hale scores the clincher in 4-3 winFrederic Aucoin, Sports Reporter CAMBRIDGE, Ontario - The Cape Breton Clippers pulled off a huge win for the franchise's first ever playoff series victory, coming up on the right side of a 4-3 score. The first period was chock-full of chances, with the Clippers out-shooting the Winter Hawks 17-12, but it wasn't until near the end of the first twenty minutes that someone finally scored, and that someone was the Clippers regular-season points leader, Pierre-Marc Bouchard! He blasted a shot right past Braden Holtby to end the period on a strong note for Cape Breton. The second period had much less shots, but much more scoring. Near the first minute of the second period, Andrew Cogliano sniped a shot past Ilya Bryzgalov to tie it up. A few minutes later, Chad Larose regained the lead for the Clippers, with a dandy snipe of his own. A few more minutes after THAT, Pierre-Marc Bouchard scored his second of the game to put Cape Breton up 3-1. Cal O'Rielly scored to get Cambridge within range of one, but with 2:45 left in the 2nd, David Hale blasted his first goal of the playoffs past Holtby to make it 4-2 after forty minutes. The third period was all Winter Hawks, and they managed to get within one goal again, after Cal O'Rielly scored again, but they wouldn't get another chance, not even after a timeout, or after Braden Holtby was pulled... The Clippers flooded the ice as time expired, congratulating each other on such a big win. The Clippers have one day of rest before they play in Gatineau on Friday against the Bolts.
