WICHITA EAGLE MARCH 3, 2014
THUNDER 5 - HOWL 3
by Paula Mueller Thudner Beat Reporter
After Schenn made it 1-0 Howl after 1, the Thunder scored 3 quick ones by Abdelkaer, Daugauvins and Phillips. Markstrom was then pulled for Hiller. Soon after that Schenn scored his 2nd of the day, then Barkov to tie the game at 3. Yannick Weber and newly acquired Alex Chiasson scored for Wichita to make it 5 goals in the period and 5-3 Thunder. The goaltenders both found the zone after that an that's how the game ended.
The Thunder visit the Air Force Wednesay in an important game for both clubs. The Air Force are only 1 point behind the Thunder and woul pass them for the 5th playoff spot with a win.

by Paula Mueller Thunder Beat Reporter
The Thunder lived up to the nickname in Wichita Sunday night. A 6-goal 2nd period (3 on the PP). 4 goals scored in the space of 1:08!
The Thunder need to keep winning because teams are right behind them if they stumble. Rematch at the Billionaires tomorrow afternoon.

THUNDER 5 - BILLIONAIRES 4 (SO)
by Paula Mueller Thunder Beat Reporter
A very even matchup today. Pearson with 2 goals and Phillips highlighted Wichita's scoring in regulation. Pearson and Porter scored in the shootout for the victory.
The Thunder start a home and home with the Salmon Kings in Wichita Thursday. They are within striking distance of the Oilers and the two clubs have an upcoming series which looks to be huge for both clubs.

WICHITA THUNDER MAY 4, 2014
NLHS 4 FARM PLAYOFFS
GAME 1 > HIPSTERS 5 - THUNDER 4 (OT)
by Paula Mueller Thunder Beat Reporter
This one should have been a victory for the Thunder. They peppered J.S. Giguere with 53 shots on goal. Chiasson had a strong game with a pair of goals. The Hipsters seized the momentum midway through the 3rd. A shorthanded powerplay goal by Paajarvi was spurred off an amazing assist by Giguere who put it on Redden's tape, and he fed a streaking Paajarvi perfectly to beat a sprawling Jimmy Howard. Chiasson scored to send it to overtime, which Wallace ended early on with a nice pass from Tanev, who has a strong game for the Hipsters.
Game 2 is Monday. The Thunder needs to this have the next game at home after this disappointing loss. If they can generate shots on goal like this again, they should be able to tie this series. Come on out and support the Thunder.

NLHS 4 FARM PLAYOFFS > GAME 2
HIPSTERS 3 - THUNDER 2 (OT)
by Paula Mueller Thunder Beat Reporter
Another game, another home overtime loss. This is not where you want to be in a playoff series. The Thunder were badly outshot again and ended up losing another one in crushing fashion Paajarvi has been a thorn in our sides this series. Now the Thunder needs to find themselves on the road. It could be done, but they'll have to really be Mad Max because home ice advantage is a distant memory now.
Look for a few line shakeups. Thunder really need a win or the brooms will be out. Maybe the road wakes these guys up? Howard could steal one. Not his fault we are down 0-2 really. He has faced a ton of shots already in this series. Gotta find a way to shut down Paajarvi. Hope these guys can dig deep and find a way to win game 3.

NLHS 4 FARM PLAYOFFS > GAME 3
HIPSTERS 3 - THUNDER 1 GIGUERE AND HIPSTERS LEAD SERIES 3-0
by Paula Mueller
Well, now the Thunder's backs are really against the wall. They are on the brink of elimination and must win in ememy territory for the series to continue.
Desjardins paced the Hispters with a goal and an assist. Michal Handzus with the lone goal for the Thunder. The Thunder have not been able to crack Giguere at all in this series. Howard has not played terrible, but it looks that way because of how well Giguere is playing.
It would save some face if the Thunder could at least spoil the sweep Saturday. The Thunder are due some lucky bounces after a pair of overtime losses and today's Giguere performance. Let's hope it happens Saturday.

HIPSTERS 5 - THUNDER 4 (OT) THUNDER ELIMINATED FROM FARM PLAYOFFS
by Paula Mueller
Close, but that doesn't count in playoff hockey. A valiant 3rd period comeback pushed the game to OT for the 3rd time in this series. And for the 3rd time, the Hipsters came out on top. Game, set, and match. See you next season, Thunder.
"We just weren't good enough.", said Carol Brown Outlaws GM. "We know we have work to do to improve this summer. All the same, these guys fought hard and should hold their heads high. Losing 3 games in overtime is tough, but the Thunder battled hard and this was good experience for them and the organization as a whole. This was a first step for us, and with the improvements we will make this summer, both farm and pro clubs plan to make playoff runs. I want any pending free agents to know, Joplin is going to be an awesome place to play hockey next season, come sign with us!"
