Alright, with the election coming down, who would you rather have? Four more years of Obama (raises hand) or a forty-fifth president? I support Obama because of a couple of things. First, it would be a middle finger to the Republicans who keep shooting his proposals down, as well as the damn voter suppression laws (I am ASHAMED to be a Pennsylvania resident right now). Second, he supports gay marriage (I have several LGBT friends...well, not so much T, but one of my favorite YouTubers is T, so...). Third, his track record, according to the fact-check site Politifact.com, has him as a more honest guy than Romney. Fourth, he's pro-choice (hi2u Paul Ryan, who is against it even in cases of rape or incest). Fifth, I'd get bragging rights over my parents, and I'd have more ammo to make fun of Fox News. (If you actually credit Fox News with something, I cannot take you seriously....Bill O'Reilly doesn't even know how tides work) Keep debates civil, please. Don't want to have to lock the thread. (Looking at that wall of text, I should join Speech & Debate this year...)

If I absolutely had to pick one or the other, I'd definitely pick Obama/Biden. It seems like every day I hear another Republican politician say something absolutely stupid, something worse than what Steven Harper and Co. would say. Also, I feel that foreign relations would be less hostile with certain countries if Obama got re-elected.
Overall, I really could not support Romney, so my choice would be Obama.

It seems like every day I hear another Republican politician say something absolutely stupid. hi2u Todd Akin In other news, the Republican National Convention has been delayed due to the threat of Hurricane Isaac. You know, I find it funny. A while back I was watching a YouTube video by Slowflake (A personal favorite LPer of mine), and he said that if God existed (he doesn't), he'd try and unleash his wrath on bible thumpers (who are usually republicans) that give him a bad name. Now....their convention is getting grilled by a Hurricane.

unfortunately... Obama.
I'm typically a conservative person on most topics, but a lot of the morons that the Reps keep bring in are a joke. McCain was a great choice last time, and they killed any chance he had by picking Palin. Although after 8 years of Bush I'm not sure if it would have mattered who was running. That said, being a huge McCain guy (i've admired and supported him since the mid-90's), I voted for Bob Barr last time.
I hate the national races, I think it's ridiculous the level that the national government has grown to. Republican/Democrat... Conservative/Liberal... shouldn't matter on that level, my biggest support is for States Rights. The federal level should be mostly for national defense and RARE supreme court issues. Other than that, states should have the right (and burden) of choosing what is right for themselves.
This nation is too big and too diverse for any national policies to positively affect the group as a whole. As controversial as it is to say, the nation would have been better off staying split into USA and CSA. Slavery is the easy explanation for the differences and the war, but it was about so much more. Slavery was on it's way out in the south anyway, but it was a slow process, which it needed to be. The land owners needed the labor force, to transition effectively would have taken time. Instead Lincoln forced the issue and crippled the south. The south was a much, much different place before the war, much more similar socially and educationally to the north. But once the slaves were freed, industry crumbled (along with the infrastructure damage of the majority of the war being fought in the south). From that point on, the south was way behind the north economically, socially, educationally and nearly every other aspect of society. It's not until the last 30 years or so that the south has really started to catch back up and hopefully is now poised to take the lead.
But that's just an example of how much difference there is in this nation. There could realistically be 5 separate countries created (Northeast, Midwest, Southeast, Southwest, Northwest). Yet we're determined that one national government is the best thing for the "more perfect union"...
anyway, i'm not voting nationally this year.

I mean, I actually have respect for conservatives who aren't dumbasses like the newer ones (Akin, Romney, etc.), but not for the actual morons. I REALLY wish I could vote this year, but I still have to wait two more years. (I'll be registering as a Democrat FWIW)
I have no clue what McCain was smoking when he chose Palin as VP

Obama, and just not because I was born and raised a Chicago Democrat.
The G.O.P. is a farce. "Christian Conservatives" who hide behind the flag and gay bash, all the while lining their own pockets and making the rich richer. Cutting every program and flushing the working class down the toilet. The party of Lincoln. Shame on them.
Obama can't take a leak without them fighting him. He inherited a mess. We supposedly live in a free market system. That's a lie. In a free-market system, mismanaged companies like GM, Bank of America, Citigroup, all the mortgage companies and banks would and should have been allowed to fail. The country would be MUCH better off now. Instead, these companies are right back at it gouging ordinary Americans.
Whats wrong with healtcare for all? Healthcare should be a basic human right and not a privilege. Even after the Supreme Court, which is supposed to be the last and final arbiter renders its decision, these SOB Republicans think they can still strike down the healthcare initiative.
Obama is far from perfect, but he is much better than Romney
Ultimately, its going to take ordinary Americans getting fed up enough to take their country back. It's going to be a long, bloody affair, and many will die in the effort. The founding founders seeing the mess this country is in today would have been calling for revolution a long time ago.
Look at the can of worms you opened, Justin. I love to talk politics. In Chicago, you learn about politics before you can crawl.
Obama is the much better choice. Hope the Democrats win control of the House and Senate so he can actually get something worthwhile done.

I have no clue what McCain was smoking when he chose Palin as VP I'm 110% sure that he had nothing to do with the choice. The GOP forced that selection because they thought it would even the playing field by forcing voters to put the first woman in or the first black man. Unfortunately they were playing a game at that point instead of worrying about actual substance and character of the candidate. Romney has great business sense, but he's WAY too out of touch with anything that the average American has to deal with.

My brother quickly turned into a left-leaner (my parents are both GOPers...well, my mom's been starting to lean towards the left, but whatever) when he went to school out there (actually sent him back from a week here today). However, I've really taken a liking to the left (alienating my dad in the process), simply because they deal with MODERN issues. In my broadcast journalism class, we had to do a report on the Tea Party (read: Absolute Morons), and myself and two of my friends, instead of talking about the morons themselves, made fun of them. I bashed them, one friend made a sarcastic report, and another ad-libbed a speech from a book (Can't remember which it was). FWIW I will probably be on the speech and debate team this fall now that my voice is 100%!! (It's on the recommendation of my Broadcast Journalism teacher, who just so happens to be the speech and debate leader....he said I have a projective voice. 2 weeks later I lose my voice for almost 3 months.)

Ultimately, its going to take ordinary Americans getting fed up enough to take their country back. You're assuming there's enough people who are willing to stop being lazy, uncaring and uninvolved. It's a lot easier to sit on our couches getting fatter than get up and actually try to change anything
