I'm not sure I like that, but I am admittedly biased. Perhaps 5 and 4 in every round, 3 and 2 start in round 2, and 1 in round 3. Not a bad idea either, kinda hits in between. Loving the discussion here, this is such a great opportunity to actually get things right. I plan to have further topics up for discussion as well, but the framework needs to be completed first.

To be more fair to the new gms (this year) let them choose how many guys they want to keep. Tgey fill up or catch up tgeir team first before the resy start drafting ... tgat gelps them huge It could be based on what year your team originally started. With the most recent teams having the most picks in the league draft, and the highest draft positions. Expansion teams from this summer who have never played in NLHS would get to pick in every round. Teams who started in NLHS4 get to start drafting in round two Teams who started in NLHS3 get to start drafting in round three Teams who started in NLHS2 get to start drafting in round four and Teams who started in NLHS1 get to start drafting round five It would be very easy to look up, and would give the NLHS5 expansion teams five picks before the original teams even had their first selection. Sounds fair enough, I guess. That or draft higher in the round to compensate and not-snaking it or something of the sort. There are many ways to go around it, as long as teams who are newer and started from dismantled expansion and dispersal drafts (due to the biased way of giving priority to current league owners on players before the expansion teams) have an option to catch up (due to players being kept). Also, until we have some kind of final set of rules/date and method for the draft, I won't be able to either commit or not. If it starts going before December 15th I just won't have the time to be able to catch up in the middle of my university finals period. If you start the draft anytime after that then I could be in.

So if we keep 20 nd cedric chooses to keep 14 he gets 6 rounds to grab guys before we do You can also just have each player you keep counts as your x pick in the draft, so if you keep 4 your first 4 rounds are gone, if you keep 10 your first 10 rounds are gone, etc... Sure, it's biased against the teams who have a bunch of talent still (and not dropping anything of value left for those left over 1sts), but it is better then nothing ;P

Cedric, you have a far better expansion team roster than I did. I built my roster, this will be year 3, with trades and drafting. Probably close to 150 trades just for Scouts alone. And suffered really horrible last place finishes (no, I did not tank for draft picks, I had traded those as well). Outlaws were built in a similar way as well.
There has to be a happy medium over the first several rounds being like a dispersal for the newer guys.

I think after this reset and the influx of the extra guys coming from the folded franchises we will see some very competitive teams throguhout the league. It is very encouraging to see the newer teams(this years new GM's) get a fair crack at grabbing some extra talent in the "reduction" draft... Does that term even exist? I dont personally think we need to give the second year GMs any advantage but the first year ones definately should have some.

AKA "average student at UVM" Clearly you've never been to Kings/Dalhousie haha I like the new idea of keeping more players and letting the newer teams have a head start in the draft.

Well, after a week of further consideration. Actually spending some time at my new job, seeing how my daily schedule will work out. Not getting all of the spots here filled, and not really getting the discussion to stimulate the league anyway. I've come to determine that we will indeed be shutting down.
I'll be jumping on board with Kevin's new league and of course continuing in the WHL. I'm sorry to let everyone down, NLHS may return one day in the future but I don't know yet. It's been a great four years and I know we'll continue the great friendships and rivalries in our other leagues.
