Clutterbuck had been on my team since our first season. He was acquired for Andrei Kostitsyn, from the Herbalists. I eventually got Kostitsyn back, and recently traded him to Dallas.

I really like him. He takes dumb penalties at times, but most enforcers do.

He became expendable with the rise of Zack Smith, taken in the 5th round last year.
I did a good job drafting last year - Smith and Henrique will be in my lineup next year; Lehner will split with Elliott in goal; Vitale and Gustafsson should be even better in NLHS4; Bouma was a blunder; Dekanich is iffy depending on how he can recover after missing the season from reconstructive ankle surgery

SCOUTS IN THE THICK OF EXPANSION DRAFT PREPARING FOR ENTRY DRAFT
We caught up with Kansas City Scouts Owner and GM Dan Brown outside the teams administative offices today. We asked him what thoughts he had regarding the expansion draft. Here are Brown's comments:
"We feel we have done a good job in the draft so far. The process gets progressively harder now trying to find diamonds in the rough with what's left on the (draft) board. We want players that have certain characteristics and/or fit a team need. We are also scouting for the upcoming entry draft."
We asked if the Scouts might be involved in any trades during the entry draft. "Mark (Messier) and I would certainly consider any trade(s) that would improve our team. The Scouts picks are in the middle of the pack in the entry draft, just as they are in the expansion draft. It is possible a prospect may fall that far down that another team would want to trade for our pick. We don't rule out trying to move up in the draft, if we see a chance to improve the club. Trading draft picks for proven players is an option that is also very much on the table." , remarked Brown.
"There will likely be a fair bit of trading, considering the NLHS has just added 8 expansion clubs. It will be fun to get to know the other GM's and we look forward to the entry draft. Right now, we are busily scouting the ongoing expansion draft while also looking ahead to the entry draft. We want to give our fans the best team we can. That's who we work for, and why were putting in the kind of hours we are in an effort to make the Scouts a quality hockey club." , said Brown.

The Scouts received wingers Chad Larose and Adreas Nodl in the 13th and 14th round. Also added were defensemen Shane O'Brien and Ian White in the 15th and 16th round.

SCOUTS DRAFT PAIR OF CENTERS, GOALIE, WINGER
The Kansas City Scouts added centers Mark Letestu and Paul Gaustad to their roster with picks 17 and 18 in the NLHS Expansion Draft. Goalie Ben Bishop joined the club with pick 19, and RW- Adam Burish was the Scouts 20th pick.
"Letestu and Gaustad are both good faceoff guys, Bishop adds goalie depth, and Burish is a versatile winger." explained Mark Messier, Scouts Assistant GM and Head Coach.
"We are generally pleased with our draft so far. Our first training camp should be very competitive, that's for sure." , noted Brown.

SCOUTS ADD DEPTH TO LW, C, D WITH PICKS 21-24 IN EXPANSION DRAFT

The Kansas City Scouts made some of their final picks of the NLHS Expansion Draft yesterday. Added in the 21st round was LW enforcer Matt Martin. Veteran D-Man Jan Hejda was chosen with the 22nd pick. Tim Brent was selected 23rd to provide Center depth. LW Mattias Tedenby was Kansas City's 24th selection.
The final round of the Expansion Draft is set for Monday. After that, all eyes will be on the Entry Draft. Speculation is there may be a bevy of trade activity leading up to that. Will the Scouts be involved? Stay tuned, fans.

By Scott Zimmermann Scouts Beat Reporter
The NLHS Expansion Draft wrapped up today with rounds 25-28. The Scouts added players of the future who likely will start their Scouts NLHS careers with the Tulsa Oilers. Picks 25 and 26 fetched Defensemen Jakub Kindl and Christopher Tanev. Centerman Blair Jones was nabbed with the Scouts 27th selection. SCOUTS ACQUIRE JOE PAVELSKI
By Scott Zimmermann Scouts Beat Reporter
The Kansas City Scouts made the first trade in their brief NLHS history today. The Scouts added veteran forward Joe Pavelski from the Montreal Wanderers in exchange for their 1st round pick (13th Overall) in the upcoming NLHS Expansion Draft.
"When you've got an opportunity to get a player like Joe you've gotta take it. Especially in our case, being a new expansion franchise.", said Mark Messier, Scouts Assistant GM and Owner."Sure the draft pick we gave up was a good one, but we feel we have improved our team today. This deal is a win-win for both organizations."
A first line of Pavelski-Laich-Parenteau is not too shabby. Pavelski provides veteran scoring and leadership, and is still relatively young. The Scouts made a good one today.

SCOUTS DEAL C- BROOKS LAICH, RW- PA PARENTEAU AND 2ND ROUND PICK TO KENTUCKY RACERS FOR 1ST ROUND PICK, LW MATT HALISCHUK
By Scott Zimmermann Scouts Beat Reporter
With the dust not even having begun to settle on their first deal, the Kansas City Scouts made a trade that left this hockey reporter scratching his head...
To Kentucky Racers: C- Brooks Laich RW- PA Parenteau Scouts 2nd round Entry Draft Pick (34th Overall)
To: KC Scouts Kentucky Racers 1st round Entry Draft Pick (16th Overall) LW- Matt Halischuk
So much for the Pavelski-Laich-Parenteau line...
The Scouts organization could not be reached for comment regarding the trade. The only thing I can speculate is they must heavily covet winger Matt Halischuk and/or have their eyes on a prospect they think will be available when they're on the clock with pick 16 in the first round of the Entry Draft.
The Scouts (and their fans) have certainly had an interesting day...

SCOUTS DEAL KORPIKOSKI TO DALLAS PISTOLS FOR 3 DRAFT PICKS
by Scott Zimmermann Scouts Beat Reporter
In another move that reminds this reporter of baseball's Oakland A's eccentric owner the late Charles O. Finley, the Kansas City Scouts have traded RW- Lauri Korpikoski to the Dallas Pistols for their 2nd round Entry Draft pick and two 3rd rounders in NLHS 4.
We tracked down Scouts Owner and GM Dan Brown and here is what he had to say: "We have made some difficult moves in recent days, but feel the moves we've made will pay off in the future. We hope our fans will be patient and realize there is a method to our madness."
The Scouts traveling secretary has been putting in overtime making travel arrangements for the cavalcade of departing Scouts draftees. Hope these moves pay off eventually for the Scouts, or Brown may need to enter the witness protection program.

PAVELSKI, LEDDY DEALT TO RACERS FOR 2013 1ST ROUND PICK, TLUSTY, SPALING
by Scott Zimmermann Scouts Beat Reporter
The roster shakeup in Kansas City continued yesterday, as Joe Pavelski, Nick Leddy and this years 2nd round draft pick were dealt to the Kentucky Racers. Veteran center Pavelski was widely speculated to be named the Scouts first Captain. Leddy is a promising young defenseman.
In return, the Scouts receive the Racer's 2013 1st round pick and forwards Jiri Tlusty and Nick Spaling. It certainly looks like the Scouts are planning for the future. But next season looks to be a rough one. It will be interesting to see how the Scouts come out of the Entry Draft.
